Instead, I spent the night in another hotel instead of sleeping on the street. The host had sent an email about access earlier in the day, but it was after I was already traveling and wouldn't have been able to access it. If the door to the building hadn't been open and I'd been forced to use the intercom, it might have worked out, but the door was open and, like with any hotel, I went in to register. I tried calling the number on my reservation and couldn't get a hold of anyone because the numbers didn't work. I got there at 6p on a Friday and no one was there to let me in. I booked in advance through a Hotels site, and their hours said check in was 2p - midnight.
